Annual Membership Meeting, Jan. 27, 2 to 4 p.m.
January 27 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Note: The Annual Membership meeting is open only to current BGA members. Each member (individual or household) may bring a guest. If you are not a member but wish to join, you may do so before the meeting.
The Annual Membership meeting will begin with a business meeting, with informative reports about the Gardens, election of board members and officers, and a vote on the proposed bylaw revision. The text of the 2002 Bylaws (currently in effect) is available http://bit.ly/Bylaws2002. The proposed revision, approved by the Board in 2018 for presentation to the membership, is available at http://bit.ly/Bylaws2018. Only a limited number of copies will be available at the meeting, so we request that members review these documents in advance, in order to prepare for the vote.
Following the business meeting, we will have a break to enjoy refreshments and conversation. After the break, Dr. Andrew Laughlin, Assistant Professor in UNCA’s Department of Environmental Studies, will give a presentation on “Avian Biodiversity in the Southern Appalachians.” The Southern Appalachians, considered a biodiversity hotspot, are undergoing many environmental changes. How do these changes affect birds? Dr. Laughlin will tell us about the research he and his students are doing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to understand how birds are responding to Eastern Hemlock die-off and to climate change.
In the event of bad weather, please call the Botanical Gardens at 828-252-5190 for a prerecorded message. If weather prevents holding the meeting on Jan. 27, our re-schedule date is Feb. 3.
